Intermezzo tells the classic story of a young music student, Anita (Bergman), who falls in love with a married concert violinist, Holger (Gösta Ekman). Holger, anxious to recapture his youth, leaves his wife and begins an illicit love affair with Anita, his daughter's piano teacher. However, a near-fatal accident involving his daughter leads Holger to reassess his family obligations.
